I have been a fan of the Mario Kart series since I went to my friend Steven’s house one day back in 1993 and he had, Super Mario Kart on the Super Nintendo and his parents had to force me to leave as it was getting late! Since then I have been hooked on the series and for the most part have had a great time with each instalment. Anyway today I am taking on the mammoth task of deciding what my favorite game in the Mario Kart series is!
I would love to know what your top 5 Mario Kart games are in the comments section down below.
Mario Kart 64
I know that some people see Mario Kart 64 as the best in the series, but honestly for me it just scrapes into the top five! This is a fun game and it got a ton of play time from me and my friends. The battle mode was freaking awesome and if you ask me four player battle mode is what this game is all about…… but the one thing I am not too keen about when it comes to Mario Kart 64 is that there is no four player Mario Kart GP! All you can do is single races which is fun, but I would have loved and actual four player Mario Kart GP mode and actually had there been one I think it may have made the game my number 4.
Mario Kart Double Dash
Wow was this an incredible looking game, actually I still think that is a very nice looking game to this day. Mario Kart Double Dash seems to be a game that people either love or they hate. I always have had a fun time with this game and the two characters per kart thing never bothered me at all to be honest as a matter of fact I always thought it was pretty fun. I loved how if you had a lot of time on your hands you could try and take on all the Mario GP circuits at once! One other thing I want to say is that I loved the character roster in this game it was so huge in contrast to the games that came before it.
Mario Kart 7
One of the best games on the 3DS! Mario Kart 7 is a lot of fun and the inclusion of being able to use gliders and under water sections I felt was a fun addition to the game. This was one of the first games that I actually really liked to play with my 3D on. I think that the game play here is a little bit more refined from what Mario Kart DS offered, but there is just not the same amount of longevity to be had in single player mode. Still this is a very fun game and it has a great online community as well. This is an essential game to have in your collection if you have a 3DS. One other thing I want to mention is that you can play local multi player with just one cartridge which is really cool.
Mario Kart DS
I had so much fun playing Mario Kart DS! For years this was all I would play on my Nintendo DS. To start with the game is a lot of fun to play, but what made this such a great game for me was the amount of content that it had. I never once have played this in multi-player, but that did not matter as there was more than enough single player content. You of course had all the Mario GP’s to play though on various difficulties, but the most fun to be had was in the awesome mission mode! I was hooked with this mode and still now will fire it up and try to beat a time or score. I really wish they would bring the mission mode back in a future Mario Kart game.
Mario Kart 8
Mario Kart 8 is one of my favorite games of this console generation. The game first of all looks incredible, but this is the most fun Mario Kart game I have ever played. I pretty much love everything about this game, the characters, karts, tracks and the DLC is some of the best value DLC I have ever seen. Game play wise this is just an absolute blast to play! I find that while of course there are still those “hey I am in first place the whole race only to be hit by a blue shell two seconds from the end moments” they are far less frequent and the game while still all about having fun is more favorable to “skilled” players rather than punishing them all the time. It is impossible not to have a great time when you are playing Mario Kart 8.
