Reliving the past in wrestling games has been happening for the better part of half a decade now. Last years, WWE 2K15 offered wrestling fans the chance to play through two different feuds and relive some of the best moments between Shawn Michaels vs Triple H and John Cena vs CM Punk. Well for 2K16 it looks like 2K Games are once again looking to the past as one of the greatest WWE Superstars of all time, Stone Cold Steve Austin looks to be getting his own mode.
The “source” of this is the WWE’s very own play by play team, Jerry The King Lawler and Jim Ross who have been doing commentary for the game.
Stone Cold Steve Austin was involved in some of the biggest moments in pro wrestling history and gamers did get a little taste of this in WWE 13 which was the last WWE game from THQ before, 2K Games secured the WWE license. But this mode sounds like it could be a very in depth look at some of the biggest moments of Steve Austin’s career.
Playing through moments like him winning the King Of The Ring, Royal Rumble, multiple WWE championships and of course his epic feud with The Rock sounds like it will be a lot of fun. While some wrestling fans are starting to get a little bit tired with the focus being on the past when it comes to wrestling games (I for one would welcome even more old school wrestling action in my WWE games!) it is smart having a mode dedicated to a legend like Stone Cold Steve Austin as this way you hook the fans who are into the WWE now and you also may score some sales of older wrestling fans who may not be into the current product the WWE are putting out, but would love the chance to play as Stone Cold Steve Austin.
WWE 2K16 will be out at the end of October for Playstation 4, Xbox One and also on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360….. will this be the last WWE game for last generation consoles?
