While Sony and their Project Morpheus VR headset has been known about for a while and something many gamers (myself included) are very excited to see. Many wondered when, Microsoft would jump on the VR train and have some kind of VR headset for the Xbox One…… well as it turns out Microsoft are not making their own VR headset. Instead they are teaming up with Oculus so that the Oculus Rift can be used with the Xbox One!
I am sure that a million things raced through most gamers minds when this was announced. What would a Halo game be like in VR? How awesome would a new Forza game be that felt like you were actually in a car? How hot would Kitana look in Mortal Kombat……. Ok so maybe that one is just me, but the fact is it is impossible not to get at the very least, intrigued about the possibilities of this.
The Oculus Rift will come with an Xbox One controller when it is released (even though they have said they are still hard at working on making their own controller for the headset) and certain games were specifically mentioned like Halo 5, Sunset Overdrive and Forza, but these will not make the games in Virtual Reality. Instead it will make you feel like you are in your own private theatre and sitting in-front of a huge screen. It is kind of cool, but a bit disappointing. Still this is only the tip of the iceberg and surely in the coming months (and possible at E3 2015) we will see what plans Oculus and Microsoft really have.
Honestly I do not think that Virtual Reality is the future of gaming, but I must admit that I am very interested to see just how this all plays out.
