Transformers Devastation Preview

One of my most anticipated games (which if you read my E3 report, you will already know) is Transformers Devastation which is being developed by Platinum Games and released by Activision for Xbox One, Xbox 360, Playstation 4, Playstation 3 and PC later this year. I am a huge Transformers fan and I think in a more “just “ world the Fall and War for Cybertron games would have done for Transformers what Arkham Asylum and City did for Batman.

Anyway the latest Transformers game, Devastation is based on G1…… and that is my era of Transformers. Not a lot is known to be honest we have seen a couple of flashy trailers and so far for the most part it looks like the game is going to be some kind of arena based brawler. The trailer does show characters in vehicle form so perhaps there will be more to the game than just fighting. So far reports have said that players will pick from one of five Autobots with no mention of being able to play as Decepticons. I would think….. and hope this will not be the case in the final game. While I would love for another story driven experience similar to what we got with Fall Of Cybertron, War For Cybertron and Dark Of The Moon…… yes Dark Of The Moon was made by the same people! I do not think we are going to get that type of game here. Still I am very excited to get my grubby little hands on this.

Platinum games are known for making some pretty wild games, Bayonetta and Vanquish being two I really enjoyed and the fighting action in Transformers Devastation does have that Platinum Games look to it…. Speaking of looks. This game is bloody gorgeous. Using cell shaded graphics they have done just a wonderful job in bringing my favorite characters that I loved as a kid…… and still do as an adult to life. They look like shiner versions of what I would watch on TV when I was a child. I love this cell shaded style and while it was all the rage back in the mid 00’s it does seem to have died of a bit the last few years, especially where consoles are concerned. Anyway as a huge Transformers fan I could not be any more happy with how the game looks. And with most of the voice actors from the classic show giving their voices to the game this is shaping up to be a G1 Transformers overload!

There looks to be a lot of characters in the game and so far from the trailers we have seen the likes of Optimus Prime, Megatron, Bumblebee, Starscream, Blitzwing, Shockwave, Wheeljack, Soundwave and a few more. I have seen that the voice actor for Grimlock, Gregg Berger is listed as being in the game so hopefully all of the Dinobots will be represented. Another couple of characters that I would love to see in the game are Hot Rod and Ultra Magnus those were two of my favorites as a kid and I would love to see them here. We know that Devastator will be in the game, but I would love to see some of the even larger Transformers such as Trypticon and Metroplex as well.

Transformers are bigger than ever right now! Just look at the money the movies make, there have been multiple TV shows, toy lines comic books and much more. I think that Transformers Devastation is shaping up to make many of us Transformers fans both old and young happy.
